OBEDIENCE CLASS TRAINERS
jo2dogs_1.jpg

Jo Woodison, a lifelong animal lover, attended the Marin Humane Society's Canine Behavior and Training Academy and completed a 6 month internship with behaviorist Trish King. Jo is a registered American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen evaluator and a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT), dogTEC, and a student member of the Society of Veterinary Behavior Technicians.

A refugee from the computer software industry, Jo has worked at the East Bay SPCA, Tony La Russa's Animal Rescue Foundation and at several Bay Area emergency veterinary hospitals. In addition to dog training, she also works at a holistic veterinary center and volunteers at local shelters.  Jo's training philosophy is based on mutual respect, implementing a program of sensible management, benevolent leadership, and fun for dog and human participants!  In addition to her training classes at Pets Lifeline, Jo offers training and behavior consultations through her own business, Fuzzy Ears.  Although British by birth, Jo now resides in Sonoma County where she is owned and trained by a flat-coated retriever mix named Shadow and an Australian German Shepherd called Bramley.

Jen Walker is proudly owned by two dogs: an Eastern Oregon Shoeherd named Moon (who is her Delta Animal Assisted Therapy Partner) and a crazy flying Cattledog named Rio whose training needs led her into a career animal welfare. Jen was a volunteer with Marin Humane Society's Behavior and Training Department, an apprentice with Sirius Dog Training, and the Behavior and Training Specialist with the Humane Society for SW Washington. She is a graduate of the SF SPCA Dog Trainers Academy and HSUS Pets for Life with experience working with shelter dogs and leading group classes. "Dogs do what works" and "Training is all about playing" are two saying that illustrate Jen's canine philosophy.

Holly McArthur is a trainer and behavior counselor who has studied animal behavior, training and learning theory for more than a decade.  Certified through the Marin Humane Society's Canine Behavior Academy and the Advanced Academy, she is committed to staying up-to-date on the latest science-based training techniques and theory through courses and conferences. She is a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers, the Behavior Education Network, Doggone Safe, an AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator, and certified in Pet CPR and First Aid.

Holly left a successful career as an entrepreneur to work with dogs and their families in shelters and through her business, Optimist Dog Training, because she is passionate about keeping people and pets together.  She knows that if dogs and their humans don't understand each other it will be the dog that will lose -- ending up in a shelter or as an outcast in the backyard away from his pack.  Thanks to her background as a communications professional, she finds creative ways to help clients understand their dog's behavior.  Her skills are tested everyday thanks to the adoption of Bean, a poorly socialized, fearful, bully of a terrier mix with severe separation anxiety.  She lives with a large brood including horses, chickens, cats, birds, twin daughters and an incredibly patient husband.  Her motto is:  "Think Positively. Train Positively."
